Deciding what your website should look like and what it should contain can be a daunting process. I work closely with you to make sure this is (hopefully) a pain free process!
I would suggest the following:
- Think about what you are aiming to get out of having a website.
- What is its purpose - to showcase, to sell, to educate?
- Think about what content you want on your site. Then think about how you want your site to look from the point of view of visitors to it. Knowing what you want on the site will impact how the site could best display this information and how it could make the user experience most satisfying. This is where we would examine how small or large the site should be.
- Does your website need to match with other existing marketing materials that you use in your business - your logo, business card, headed paper, etc?
- You (and I) would also look at what your competitors may have produced so far with the aim of improving on their sites.
- How often do you need to update the content on your site? This will have a bearing on the design. One of my differentiating points is that I commit to updating your site very quickly from your initial request. I will also periodically suggest updates in design and presentation which you may or may not wish to incorporate.
- However, sometimes you may want to update the information on the site yourself. This may be the preferred option when the information to be updated changes very frequently. This is possible and largely depends on the type of information you want to update. These sites typically incorporate a Content Management System. An example is shown on the Bridge Club web site where an end user can update the weekly results.
- Essentially, the more planning that goes into this process the greater the likelihood that you will get a site you're proud of - and one that your customers are happy to use again and again.
